Five Peaches
In Taoism, peaches are considered sacred fruits consumed by immortals because they are thought to grant eternal life through their mystical properties. However, despite the belief in their eternal qualities, peaches eventually rot, teaching us that not everything we expect to last forever indeed does.
Similarly, I symbolized human relationships with the five ceramic peaches. These relationships were expected to withstand the test of time. But just like ordinary peaches, the relationship deteriorated for various reasons. The first peach was one I clung to too tightly, leaving my handprints all over it. The second was left to rot for a long time, eventually deforming the relationship into a totally different shape. The pressure to maintain the third relationship, ultimately stretched it thin, leaving only a faint connection between us. The pressure to keep the relationship intact caused the fourth to melt away, and the last relationship gradually deteriorated without my realization.
